EWEC targets 45% cut in Abu Dhabi carbon emissions by 2035 as solar scales to 35 GW

The plan leans on a large solar build-out and a shift to reverse osmosis desalination. EWEC plans to have 14 GW of solar capacity by 2030 and more than 35 GW by 2035, backed by up to 15 GW of battery storage. That should reduce reliance on gas-fired generation. In the water sector, reverse osmosis is expected to cover over 95% of production by 2035, replacing energy-intensive thermal desalination. The utility says the effort supports Abu Dhabi's Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035 and the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 strategy. The numbers give a useful benchmark for tracking whether one Gulf grid can grow fast while cutting absolute emissions.
