A new card game from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand aims to teach players about carbon footprints and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) through interactive play. The Every Day CO2 Challenge game uses cards representing stages of a product's life from raw materials to disposal, with scores based on greenhouse gas emissions. Players compete to collect the lowest total score by discarding high emission cards and using action cards to swap with others. The game is designed for 3 to 8 players and takes about 20 to 30 minutes per round. The game was developed by Varoon Varanyanond, an industrial partnership advisor at PETROMAT, after he found that traditional lectures failed to convey LCA concepts to the public. The scores on each card are based on international environmental impact databases, showing comparisons like virgin versus recycled aluminum or bicycle versus air transport emissions. The game master asks players why they discard certain cards, turning play into active learning. The first 50 sets were produced from recycled plastic with support from GIZ and the Thai Packaging Design Association. The creator has no plans to make an online version because face to face interaction is central to the learning experience. A new version aimed at organizational level environmental impact is in development. The game is designed for 3 to 8 players and takes about 20 to 30 minutes per round.
