Europlasma's subsidiary Valdunes Industries has signed a memorandum of understanding with steelmaker Saarstahl Ascoval to develop a new generation of low-carbon railway wheels. The two French companies will use locally produced low-carbon steel and a closed-loop recycling process where worn wheels are collected, remelted, and turned into new ones. This is aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of wheel manufacturing and transport while strengthening the domestic rail supply chain in the Hauts-de-France region. The MoU comes after Valdunes secured multiple international orders earlier this year. The partnership is part of Europlasma's broader industrial decarbonisation strategy, which also includes waste treatment and alternative fuel production. However, the company's stock is down over 95% year to date, so this deal is more about operational viability than immediate financial turnaround. The key question is whether the low-carbon wheel production can scale and meet procurement standards.
