European Energy and Greenfield Global plan 48,000 tonne e-methanol plant in Quebec for shipping fuel
engine.onlineEuropean Energy has teamed up with Canadian ethanol producer Greenfield Global to build a 48,000 tonne per year e-methanol plant in Quebec. The facility will sit at Greenfield's existing ethanol distillery and capture biogenic CO2 from fermentation, then combine it with green hydrogen made from renewable electricity. The companies plan to market the fuel to shipping, building on European Energy's Kasso plant in Denmark, which already supplies A.P. Moller-Maersk. Quebec was chosen for its low-cost hydropower and investment policies, plus the existing site infrastructure and access to North American and European markets. No project timeline or offtake agreements have been announced yet. The next step is commercial talks with potential buyers after initial engineering studies and the grid connection are underway.
