In the UK, the Northern Endurance Partnership is deploying a new recoverable abandonment frame system from Aquaterra Energy. This technology aims to secure legacy wells in offshore storage sites, potentially cutting abandonment costs by 20 million pounds per well and speeding up remediation timelines.

Good to see the physical infrastructure for CCS actually arriving. We talk a lot about capture, but the transport and storage side is where the actual bottleneck usually is.

The 7,500 cubic meter capacity is a start, but the move toward 12,000 cubic meter ships by 2028 shows they are already hitting scale issues. I wonder what the actual turnaround time is for these ships at the receiving terminal.

The cross border nature of Northern Lights is the interesting part here. It forces a standard for CO2 accounting and transfer of liability between the emitting country and Norway.

That RAF system for well abandonment is the real story for me. If they can actually shave 20 million off the cost per well, it makes a lot of these mature basin projects much more viable.
