European Aluminium has released a strategic innovation agenda to decarbonize the sector. The plan focuses on six pillars: electrification, hydrogen, recycling, resource efficiency, carbon-free primary production, and carbon capture. Key strategies include replacing fossil fuels in alumina refining and extrusion with renewable electricity and green hydrogen. The industry also aims to integrate smelters into the power grid to provide flexible demand services based on renewable energy availability.
