EUROMETAL leaders warn that loopholes in the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) allow non-EU competitors to bypass tariffs by slightly modifying products. This creates an uneven playing field that threatens European manufacturing and millions of industrial jobs. Industry experts argue that the transition to green hydrogen will take decades, making carbon capture the only viable short-term solution for blast furnaces. There are also concerns that relying on default emission values instead of verified data will inflate costs and force low-margin producers out of business.
