The European Steel Association (EUROFER) is pushing for tighter origin requirements in the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act. They argue that current rules allow imported steel to be labeled as EU-origin after minimal processing, which undermines the market for domestically produced low-carbon steel. EUROFER suggests mandatory requirements for steel melted and poured within the EU, alongside higher low-carbon quotas for public procurement. The association also wants these rules extended to the electric vehicle and wind energy sectors to ensure real industrial decarbonization.
