Eurelectric, the European electricity industry association, is pushing for a more predictable EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). They argue that current uncertainty around ETS rules and price signals is undermining long-term investment in decarbonization. Without clearer signals, power companies struggle to commit to low-carbon projects that depend on carbon pricing. The call comes as the EU prepares for the next phase of ETS reforms, including the phase-out of free allowances and expansion to new sectors. Eurelectric wants stable rules that give investors confidence to fund renewables, storage, and grid upgrades. The group warns that short-term policy tweaks could backfire by stalling the very investments Europe needs to meet its climate targets.
