EU Updates Carbon Market Allowances for Industrial Decarbonization 2026-2030
openaccessgovernment.orgThe European Commission has proposed new values for the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) for the 2026-2030 period. These updates will determine the volume of free carbon allowances granted to European industries to maintain global competitiveness while pushing for cleaner production. Under the current proposal, industries will receive free allocations covering approximately 75% of their average emissions. The system aims to reward the most efficient operators by basing allowance distributions on the performance of the cleanest industrial benchmarks.
