EU project EV4EU tests vehicle-to-everything charging and EV flexibility across four countries
cordis.europa.euThe EU-funded EV4EU project wrapped up work on vehicle-to-everything (V2X) solutions that let electric cars push power back to the grid. The project built and tested a bidirectional charging station prototype, open source tools for charging point operators, and a virtual power plant approach that trades EV flexibility on energy markets. Pilots ran in Portugal, Slovenia, Greece, and Denmark. Results include a 14% reduction in household charging costs and a 21.9% increase in renewable energy integration in Portugal. The Danish demo cut three-phase power imbalances in parking lot charging clusters. The project also used price signals tied to grid conditions and renewable availability, and it developed services meant to kick in during expected renewable curtailment. The work supports the case for treating EV batteries as grid assets, not just car parts. EV4EU also helped form the V2X Cluster with other EU projects to keep sharing technical and market insights. The full results are in the CORDIS article.
