EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra has announced plans to revamp the bloc's carbon emissions trading system. The goal is to return more generated revenue to industrial players, providing them with a stronger financial incentive to invest in deep decarbonization technologies. Beyond carbon pricing, the Commission is emphasizing energy security through increased domestic production. This includes a push for more wind, solar, geothermal, and nuclear power, alongside critical investments in grid interconnectors and heat pumps to reduce reliance on external energy sources.
