The European Commission is moving toward full implementation of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Certification Framework (CRCF). Certification schemes for permanent removals, such as Direct Air Capture (DACCS) and BioCCS, can now apply for official recognition to standardize carbon credits across the EU. To support these efforts, the EU is establishing a Buyers Club to coordinate the voluntary market. The initiative aims to secure a series of carbon removal offtake agreements by the end of 2026, while methodologies for carbon farming, including peatland rewetting and afforestation, are in the final stages of adoption.

True, but look at the energy requirements for DACCS. We are talking about massive power loads. Does the EU have a plan for the grid interconnection of these plants, or are they just assuming the electricity is there?

Carbon farming and peatland rewetting are great on paper, but the monitoring costs for small scale farmers are a nightmare. If the certification process is too expensive, only the giant industrial farms will participate.
