EU Names HyProMag Rare Earth Magnet Recycling a Strategic Project, Supporting US Supply Chain Efforts
azcentral.comHyProMag GmbH has been named a Strategic Project under the European Union's Critical Raw Materials Act, part of a 46 project batch meant to strengthen critical mineral supply chains. The designation covers rare earth magnet recycling, which the EU sees as a way to cut dependence on primary imports and improve supply chain resilience. The company's HPMS process does short loop magnet to magnet recycling and claims 88% lower energy use and 85% lower carbon emissions compared to conventional methods. Feedstock includes end of life EV motors, data center equipment, consumer electronics, and manufacturing scrap. HyProMag USA, a 50/50 venture with CoTec Holdings, is working on a similar recycling operation in Texas to supply NdFeB magnets for EVs, defense, robotics, and electronics. The EU label mainly helps with faster permitting and access to finance. It does not guarantee production volumes, and the US facility is still in development. The press release includes forward looking statements and notes that actual results may differ.
