The European Commission has decided to keep the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in place for fertiliser imports. This decision comes despite warnings from farmers that carbon pricing is driving up input costs and contributing to food inflation. To offset the financial burden, the EU is considering increased subsidies and state aid for the agricultural sector. The Commission plans to investigate how carbon costs move through the supply chain from factories to consumers to determine the best support mechanisms.
