EU Innovation Fund Grants €3.4B to 77 Net-Zero Projects, First DACCS and SMR Awards Included
carbonherald.comThe European Commission has handed out €3.4 billion from EU ETS carbon revenues to 77 net-zero projects across 23 countries. The December 2025 Innovation Fund call backs industrial carbon management, clean tech manufacturing, critical raw materials, and storage. Projects are expected to avoid about 290 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in their first decade. The round includes the first Innovation Fund grants for direct air capture and small modular reactors. Norway's Furu DACCS project will capture around 4,000 tonnes of CO2 per year using renewable power and store it through the Northern Lights subsea facility. France's NetZeroHeat SMR is a 30 MW heat-only reactor designed to supply 131 GWh per year to district heating networks. Also funded are lithium extraction, floating wind, microgrid storage, and grid conversion projects. The next Innovation Fund call opens in early December.
