The European Commission has awarded nearly €400 million to 65 industrial projects aimed at replacing natural gas with clean heat technologies. These projects utilize a variety of solutions, including industrial heat pumps, solar thermal, and electric resistance heating, across sectors like steel, glass, and pharmaceuticals. Funded by the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), the initiative expects to avoid 6.6 million tons of CO2 emissions over the next decade. Selected projects must reach financial close within two years and begin operations within four years to meet the EU's decarbonization targets.
