The European Commission has concluded the first round of its Hydrogen Mechanism, revealing a significant imbalance between producers and buyers. While 265 supply opportunities for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen were registered, only 45 offtake projects signed up to buy, highlighting a stark gap in market demand. Most supply offers focused on ammonia, methanol, and synthetic aviation fuels (e-SAF). While 87% of supply opportunities found some interest, the disparity suggests that industrial adoption of hydrogen is lagging behind the surge in production capacity.
