The European Commission is drafting a plan to provide fertiliser companies with additional free CO2 emission permits. These permits would be conditional on companies increasing their production of bio-based, circular, or low-carbon fertilisers to secure local supply within Europe. This move comes as the EU attempts to cushion farmers from soaring fertiliser costs and gas price volatility. The proposal is expected to be part of a broader overhaul of the EU carbon market scheduled for July.
