EU Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra is hosting an implementation dialogue on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on 15 October 2026. The session brings together producers from steel, aluminium, cement and fertilisers, along with downstream buyers, energy utilities, verifiers and NGOs, to discuss how CBAM is working in its definitive phase that started on 1 January 2026. The feedback will feed into the operational side of CBAM and into a comprehensive review scheduled for 2027. For businesses importing these materials into the EU, the outcome affects reporting duties, certificate costs and how carbon prices paid outside the EU are recognised. The Commission has said it wants CBAM to be robust, predictable and workable, which means the review will need to balance climate ambition with administrative reality.
