EU aviation industry calls for ETS overhaul: SAF allowances, revenue reinvestment, and CORSIA over unilateral expansion
aci-europe.orgThe European aviation industry is pushing back on parts of the EU ETS review while asking for stronger support for sustainable aviation fuels. In a statement from DESTINATION 2050, airlines, airports, manufacturers, and air navigation providers call for more SAF allowances, full reinvestment of aviation ETS auction revenue, and a book-and-claim system to make SAF credits work across different airports. The group also opposes expanding the EU ETS to extra-EEA routes, saying CORSIA should stay the global carbon pricing tool for international aviation. It wants EU funding programs to cover technology maturation, including efficient propulsion, aerodynamics, hybrid and electric aircraft, and it wants clearer rules for carbon capture and utilization. On contrails, the industry says incentives should wait until forecasting and operational feasibility are proven, not just adopt a tool.
