The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) is calling for the EU to include low-carbon materials, specifically aluminium, in the compensatory mechanisms of CO2 regulations for cars and vans. This move aims to create immediate market demand for greener metals and align vehicle emissions rules with other EU industrial policies. ACEA argues that delaying these incentives until 2035 would slow down decarbonization. They are urging policymakers to finalize a clear definition of low-carbon aluminium by 2027 to provide the industry with the regulatory certainty needed for large-scale investment.
