EU Approves €9 Billion in State Aid for Carbon-Linked Energy Costs in Austria and Spain
brusselstimes.comThe European Commission has authorized Austria and Spain to provide over €9 billion in state aid to energy-intensive industries. This funding compensates companies for indirect electricity costs driven by the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) carbon market. To receive the funds, companies in sectors like steel, chemicals, and aluminum must commit a significant portion of the aid to decarbonization. In Austria, at least 80% of the support must be reinvested into energy efficiency or renewable energy projects.
