Ethiopia's Parliament Approves Carbon Market Bill to Boost Green Investment and Technology Transfer
ena.etEthiopia's House of Peoples' Representatives has approved a carbon market bill aimed at turning the country's green development initiatives into economic opportunities. The legislation is designed to attract green investment, facilitate technology transfer, and promote carbon market development. It was passed alongside bills on federal tax administration reform and national statistics during the 29th regular session in Addis Ababa. The carbon market bill is part of Ethiopia's broader strategy to leverage its expanding green development programs for economic gain. By creating a legal framework for carbon trading, the government hopes to draw in international investment and support technology transfer. The tax reform bill introduces an independent mediation mechanism for taxpayer disputes, while the statistics bill aims to establish a modern, internationally compliant statistical system to guide data-based decision making. All three bills were approved unanimously based on recommendations from the Planning, Budget, and Finance Standing Committee.
