67-70% reduction is decent but not the full story. The real question is whether the ethanol is sugarcane based and what the land use emissions look like. Brazil has a lot of degraded pasture that could be used, but if it drives deforestation, the math changes.

Copersucar saying 50 billion liters of potential demand is a big number. That's more than Brazil's entire current production. They would need massive expansion of sugarcane acreage. Not sure the environmental groups would let that slide without a fight.

Port infrastructure is the part nobody talks about. Santos needs ethanol storage tanks, blending facilities, and safety systems. That takes years and real capital. The first mover advantage is real but so is the stranded asset risk if methanol or ammonia wins instead.
