Essar Energy Transition is transforming the Stanlow refinery into a low-carbon hub, aiming to reduce emissions by 95 percent by the 2030s. The plan involves a 4.3 billion pound investment in carbon capture, electrification, and low-carbon hydrogen production. The company is calling for the UK government to include refined products in the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism to prevent unfair competition from untaxed high-carbon imports. This transition is projected to support 10,000 jobs and generate 1.9 billion pounds in annual economic value by 2035.
