Eskom has begun building a 75MW solar power plant at the Lethabo Power Station in the Free State. The R1.2 billion project is part of a larger plan to integrate 6GW of renewable energy across existing coal-fired plant sites by 2030 to diversify the national energy mix. The project aims to generate 147GWh of electricity annually. Eskom plans to use existing infrastructure at coal stations to reduce costs and speed up the deployment of solar, wind, and battery storage systems as part of South Africa's Just Energy Transition.
