Federal regulators have pushed back the deadline for public comments on three proposed carbon dioxide injection wells near Gibson City, Illinois. Comments are now due October 4 instead of September 23. The EPA will hold an availability session and formal hearing on September 22 at the Countryside Event Center. One Earth Sequestration wants to inject up to 90 million metric tons of CO2 roughly one mile underground in a recharge area of the Mahomet Aquifer. Eco-Justice Collaborative, which gathered more than 850 signatures, says the project could put the aquifer at risk. To preserve appeal rights, commenters should either speak at the hearing or file written comments by October 4.
