Canada-based Entosystem has received independent verification of its greenhouse gas reductions under ISO 14064-3, making it eligible for carbon credits through the CSA Group's EcoProjects Registry. The company uses black soldier fly larvae to convert food waste into insect protein for feed. Its current facility is designed to handle up to 90,000 metric tons of food waste per year and is projected to avoid about 23,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually. The company says it has reached full capacity and sells most of its output into the U.S. backyard chicken market. It is now looking at aquaculture feed as a next step, partly because of expected shortages in marine feed ingredients. The verification matters because it gives buyers a concrete emissions number instead of a generic sustainability claim.
