Louisiana utility Entergy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop carbon capture projects at Entergy's power generation sites. The partnership aims to halve overall carbon capture costs in the near term by combining MHI's gas turbines and carbon capture technology with Entergy's access to the largest existing CO2 pipeline network in the US and suitable subsurface geology for permanent CO2 storage. The companies say scale, standardization, and strong partnerships are key to making carbon capture commercially viable. Entergy's COO emphasized the goal of providing affordable clean power, while MHI executives noted the MOU builds on a longstanding relationship. The initiative could help lower long-term costs for the broader energy industry if the projects move forward.
