Eni Installs World-First Offshore CCS Platform for Liverpool Bay HyNet Decarbonization
theglobeandmail.comEni has installed the Douglas CCS platform in Liverpool Bay, calling it the world's first purpose-built offshore platform dedicated to carbon capture and storage for industrial decarbonization. The platform is part of the Liverpool Bay CCS network, which will move CO2 captured from industrial sites in North West England and North Wales through repurposed offshore pipelines into depleted natural gas reservoirs for permanent storage. The project underpins the HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster in the UK. Eni says the platform was delivered in under 18 months from contract award and that the wider Liverpool Bay CCS network is about 50% complete. Around 60% of total project spending is going to UK supply chains, supporting more than 2,000 construction jobs and an estimated 200 to 300 long-term roles over more than 25 years of operations. The project is part of Eni CCUS Holding, the joint venture with Global Infrastructure Partners, a BlackRock company. For Eni, the milestone strengthens its position in carbon management infrastructure aimed at hard-to-abate industries.
