Eni Completes Installation of Purpose-Built Offshore CCS Platform for Liverpool Bay and HyNet
rigzone.comEni has completed installation of the Douglas CCS platform in the Irish Sea, part of the Liverpool Bay CCS project. The company describes it as the first purpose-built offshore platform dedicated to carbon capture and storage for industrial decarbonization. The platform will take CO2 captured from industrial sites in North West England and North Wales and move it through repurposed offshore pipelines into depleted gas reservoirs for permanent storage. Liverpool Bay CCS is now 50 percent complete. It will provide transport and storage for the HyNet project, which plans to store up to 4.5 million metric tons of CO2 per year, with an eventual target of 10 million. The project uses a mix of new and existing infrastructure to cut cost and schedule risk. Eni's CCUS joint venture with BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners also secured more than EUR 500 million in financing from 13 international lenders. The money supports Liverpool Bay, the L10-CCS project in the Netherlands, and the Bacton CCS project in the UK. The company is also developing the Ravenna CCS project in Italy, which started injection in 2024.
