English Heritage is upgrading heating systems across its estate to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040. In partnership with Vaillant, the organization is replacing old oil and gas boilers with aroTHERM plus air source heat pumps in several holiday cottages. These installations, including sites at Lindisfarne and St Mawes Castle, show how renewable heating can be integrated into historic properties. The project focuses on maintaining guest comfort and operational simplicity while reducing reliance on fossil fuels in heritage housing stock.
