Enfinium is asking Flintshire County Council for planning approval to install a carbon capture unit at its Parc Adfer waste-to-energy plant in Connah's Quay, North Wales. The roughly $265 million retrofit would capture about 241,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, a 95% capture rate, using oxygen-enhanced combustion. The captured CO2 would feed into the HyNet transport network and be stored offshore under the Irish Sea. The council's planning officers have recommended approval, and the committee is set to vote on October 7, 2026. If approved, the capture plant would be required to operate until December 31, 2050, aligning with UK and Welsh net zero targets. The project is part of a broader push to integrate waste infrastructure into regional carbon transport and storage clusters.
