Energy Skills Partnership and BE-ST team up to close Scotland's low carbon construction and retrofit skills gap
scottishhousingnews.comScotland's college sector and built environment innovation are getting closer. Energy Skills Partnership (ESP) and Built Environment Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) have signed a formal partnership to align skills work for low carbon construction, retrofit, and the energy transition. Both are funded by the Scottish Funding Council, so the goal is to avoid duplication and get more value from existing investment. The partnership will map current and future skills needs, support curriculum development, and create routes for college staff and students to join BE-ST programmes like the Low Carbon Passport and BE-ST Fest. It also plugs into Retrofit Scotland, BE-ST's platform for training and best practice sharing in retrofit work. For housing professionals, the practical takeaway is workforce supply. If Scotland is going to retrofit homes and build to net zero standards, colleges need to be training people for those jobs. This deal is an attempt to make that happen faster and with fewer overlapping initiatives.
