Energy Dome and Google partner on 200MWh CO2 battery in Ireland to ease grid congestion and supply carbon-free energy

Energy Dome has signed a tolling agreement with Google for a 23MW/200MWh CO2 battery storage system in County Offaly, Ireland. The project, expected online in 2028, will supply carbon-free energy to Google's nearby operations and help relieve grid congestion on a key transmission node feeding the Greater Dublin area. The area hosts significant wind and solar capacity but suffers from curtailment, and the 8-hour duration system will shift renewable output to peak demand periods. Energy Dome will build, own, and operate the system, which already secured a 10-year T-4 capacity market contract from TSO Eirgrid. A second identical unit at the same site has planning and grid connection and could bid into Ireland's forthcoming LDES procurement mechanism. This is the first bilateral deal under the global partnership between Google and Energy Dome, following a strategic investment by Google in the LDES startup last year. The companies are working on a multi-continent pipeline of hundreds of megawatts.
