Japanese refinery company ENEOS has launched a demonstration plant that creates synthetic petrol, diesel, and jet fuel. The process uses Direct Air Capture to pull carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and combines it with green hydrogen produced from water via electrolysis. Currently producing one barrel of fuel per day, the technology utilizes the Fischer-Tropsch process to create hydrocarbons that function like traditional fossil fuels. This approach aims to reduce oil import dependency and lower the carbon footprint of heavy transport and aviation.
