En-ROADS Climate Simulator Adds Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement for Carbon Removal Modeling

Developed by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan, the tool lets users model how mineral-based and electrochemical OAE approaches could contribute to global CO2 removal targets. Users can compare OAE with other carbon removal methods, test policy and investment assumptions, and see results in interactive scenarios. Ocean Visions partnered with Climate Interactive to add OAE to the simulator, aiming to bring marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) into mainstream climate strategy discussions. The platform is designed for non-experts, offering instant data visualizations without requiring modeling skills. Between 2022 and 2025, En-ROADS informed 58 policies and initiatives across government, investment, and corporate sectors. This update gives decision-makers a practical way to evaluate OAE's costs, constraints, and uncertainties alongside other climate solutions. It reflects growing interest in mCDR as a tool for meeting emissions goals and provides a trusted platform for exploring its potential role.
