Emterra opens $41M CNG fleet hub in Kitchener, Ontario for lower-carbon waste collection
recyclingtoday.comEmterra Environmental has opened a $41 million facility in Kitchener, Ontario to house and maintain its compressed natural gas (CNG) collection fleet. The site serves about 180,000 households per week and employs 75 people. Emterra says the lower-carbon fleet will avoid roughly 1,660 metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions per year, which it compares to taking about 360 passenger vehicles off the road. Alongside CNG trucks, the fleet includes zero-emissions electric support vehicles and automated side-loaders. The facility also has one of Ontario's newest and largest CNG fueling stations and a certified CNG maintenance shop. The opening marks Emterra's 50th anniversary and expands its waste collection infrastructure in the Waterloo Region.
