EMSTEEL Group, a major UAE steel and building materials producer, has been reappointed as co-chair of the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation (AFID) for a second term. The announcement came during New York Climate Week 2026. AFID is led by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and brings together industry, energy, and technology partners to work on practical ways to cut industrial emissions. The company will co-chair the alliance alongside BASF. EMSTEEL says the focus will be on mobilising investment, developing infrastructure, and securing clean energy supplies for hard to abate sectors. Its own net zero target is 2050, with plans built around clean electricity, green hydrogen, carbon capture, and lower carbon building materials. The reappointment strengthens the UAE's role in industrial decarbonisation discussions, but the real test will be whether the alliance can move from high level dialogue to measurable emissions cuts across member companies.
