Elridge Energy invests RM45m to make activated carbon from palm kernel shells in Malaysia
theedgemalaysia.comElridge Energy Holdings is investing RM45 million to produce activated carbon at a new plant in Pulau Indah, Selangor. The company will use palm kernel shell biomass as feedstock, moving beyond its existing fuel supply business into filtration and purification materials. Activated carbon is used in water treatment, industrial purification, and filtration. The plant is designed for up to 21,600 tonnes per year, with three production lines starting in the first half of FY2027 and three more in the second half. Elridge says the investment is fully funded from internal cash. It had about RM198 million in cash and bank balances as of June 30, 2026, and none of the IPO proceeds will be used. The company plans to sell to industrial manufacturers, water treatment operators, and processing facilities in Malaysia, China, and Japan. It cites market research projecting the global activated carbon market to grow from US$9.26 billion in 2026 to US$15.71 billion, though the business still needs the required licences and permits.
