Elopak, a global packaging supplier, has started using low-carbon aluminium made with renewable electricity in its European carton manufacturing plants in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ukraine. The switch reduces the carbon footprint of its standard aseptic Pure-Pak carton from 53g to 49g CO2e per carton, an 8% drop. The company says this is a concrete step to lower the climate impact of its packaging while keeping the barrier properties needed to protect food and extend shelf life. Elopak also offers an aluminium-free aseptic carton called Pure-Pak eSense and works only with suppliers certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. The company runs its global operations on 100% renewable electricity and has introduced cartons with recycled polymers to help customers meet upcoming EU packaging regulations. Elopak has set Science-Based Targets aligned with a 1.5C pathway and a net-zero goal by 2050.
