Elopak switches to low-carbon aluminium for ambient cartons, cutting carbon footprint by 8%
elopak.comElopak has started using low-carbon aluminium made with renewable electricity in its standard ambient cartons produced in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ukraine. This change reduces the carbon footprint of a typical aseptic Pure-Pak carton from 53 to 49 g CO2e per carton, an 8% drop based on cradle-to-gate calculations. The aluminium still provides the barrier properties needed for food protection and shelf life, but now with lower upstream emissions. The company sources only from members of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative and runs its own operations on 100% renewable electricity. This move follows other recent packaging innovations like cartons with recycled polymers introduced in 2025. As EU packaging regulations tighten, Elopak is positioning its portfolio to help customers meet their own sustainability targets without compromising on product protection.
