Elopak, a paper-based packaging company, has started using low-carbon aluminium made with renewable electricity at its facilities in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ukraine. The switch reduces the carbon footprint of its standard aseptic Pure-Pak carton from 53 grams of CO2 to 49 grams per carton, a nearly 8% drop. The aluminium serves as a thin barrier layer protecting food from light and oxygen, critical for shelf life in ambient packaging. The company also offers an aluminium-free carton called Pure-Pak eSense for ambient distribution and has introduced recycled polymers in 2025 to help customers meet EU packaging regulations. Elopak sources its aluminium from ASI-certified members and runs all its facilities on renewable electricity. These moves show how incremental material changes in packaging can deliver measurable emission cuts without sacrificing performance.
