Elopak cuts packaging carbon footprint 8% with low-carbon aluminium switch

Elopak has started using low-carbon aluminium made with renewable electricity in its standard ambient cartons produced at plants in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ukraine. The change cuts the carbon footprint of a standard aseptic Pure-Pak carton from 53 to 49 grams of CO2 equivalent per carton, an 8% reduction. The aluminium retains its barrier properties against light and oxygen, which helps extend product shelf life. Elopak sources aluminium only from members of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative and runs its own operations on 100% renewable electricity. The company also offers an aluminium-free aseptic carton called Pure-Pak eSense. In 2025, it introduced cartons with recycled polymers to prepare for upcoming EU packaging regulations. The move is part of a broader push to help customers meet their own climate targets.
