Elopak cuts carton carbon footprint by 8% with low-carbon aluminum from renewable electricity
packagingnews.com.auElopak has started using low-carbon aluminum in its European carton production, reducing the carbon footprint of its standard ambient Pure-Pak carton from 53 to 49 grams of CO2 equivalent per carton. The aluminum is made with renewable electricity and sourced from suppliers certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. The change applies to plants in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ukraine. The company says the switch delivers an immediate and measurable emissions cut while keeping the barrier properties needed to protect food and extend shelf life without preservatives. Elopak also offers an aluminum-free aseptic carton called Pure-Pak eSense for further reductions. Its operations run on 100% renewable electricity, and it introduced cartons with recycled polymers in 2025 to prepare for EU packaging regulations.
