The switch reduces the cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of a Pure-Pak carton from 53 grams of CO2 equivalent to 49 grams, an immediate 8% reduction. The company says the change does not affect the functional properties needed for food protection and shelf life. This is a practical example of how material substitution in packaging can deliver measurable emissions cuts without redesigning the product. For carbon credit and climate finance watchers, it shows how procurement choices for industrial inputs like aluminum can directly lower embedded emissions. The challenge will be scaling this beyond Europe and verifying the renewable electricity claims across the supply chain.
