Good point. A lot of these articles skip the grid part. Kenya and Rwanda have decent hydro and geothermal so they might be ahead. But most of the continent still runs on diesel generators for backup. That kind of defeats the low carbon angle.

Exactly. If the marginal charge comes from a diesel gen set the carbon math flips. The article should have mentioned what share of the local grid is renewable. Without that number the whole low carbon claim is just marketing.

True but policy should tie EV incentives to grid decarbonization milestones. Otherwise you get diesel powered EVs for a decade. Some countries are starting to link EV subsidies to renewable energy targets. That is the smarter path.
