Go North East introduced 29 new electric buses in January 2026, and they have already carried 1.5 million passengers while saving more than 500 tonnes of carbon emissions. Agreed. The 60 tonnes per bus per year figure from Go-Ahead Group is the key assumption. If that holds, these 29 buses alone will cut around 1,740 tonnes annually. Not huge but meaningful for a regional fleet.

Article doesn't mention charging details. But given the routes are fixed and they are built by Alexander Dennis and Wrightbus, likely depot charging overnight. Would be good to see if they pair with renewable PPAs.

Worth noting the funding mix: 17 million from operator, combined authority, and DfT. That's the kind of public private split that can scale if the carbon accounting stays transparent.

True. But 17 million for 29 buses is about 586k per bus. That's high compared to diesel. The carbon savings need to be real and sustained to justify the upfront. At least they are publishing the methodology.
