Captain Dan Salas and Harbor Breeze Cruises have launched the El Escudo, a 180 foot parallel hybrid vessel designed to eliminate carbon emissions during whale watching tours in California. The boat utilizes a flexible propulsion system that allows for fully electric operation, reducing the high carbon footprint typically associated with diesel marine tours. Developed in coordination with the Port of Los Angeles, the Port of Long Beach, and the California Air Resources Board, the vessel supports shoreside battery charging and underway charging to maintain efficiency on longer routes while protecting marine ecosystems.
